The Lam Museum of Anthropology is looking for people who celebrate Day of the Dead to participate in short video interviews that will appear in next year’s exhibit.

Interviews will take approximately five minutes. Faculty and staff who are interested in participating can email lammuseum@wfu.edu. Participants will be asked to answer a few questions about how they celebrate Day of the Dead. The recordings will take place at the Museum and the final video will then be a combination of interviews, subtitled in English and Spanish, and be played on a loop during the 2023 Day of the Dead exhibit.

The deadline to participate is Dec. 9.

Those who know they would like to participate may also do so at the Day of the Dead celebration at the Lam Museum on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

The event includes:

  • Craft activities
  • Face painting
  • Performances by Mariachi Los Galleros at 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.
  • Forsyth County Library Bookmobile with books in English and Spanish
  • Food available for purchase from Que Viva Latin Street Grill

Admission is free.

The Day of the Dead celebration is held in conjunction with Life after Death: The Day of the Dead in Mexico on exhibit through Dec. 9. The exhibit explores the Mexican celebration of Día de los Muertos with a centerpiece of a traditional ofrenda, an altar with food and beverage offerings, flowers, sugar skulls and photos of deceased family members.

The colorful exhibit includes information on the celebration’s history and its unique skeleton-themed folk art. This year, the largest-ever installation also features a cemetery display and a discussion of the commercialization of the holiday in the United States. The exhibit text is in English and Spanish.

The celebration is co-sponsored by the WFU Latin American & Latino Studies program.
