Registration now open for fall 2021 HELPS TLC program

This is a guest post from Wake Forest’s Healthy Exercise & Lifestyle ProgramS (HELPS):

The HELPS TLC program is a three-month medically directed, professionally supervised “Therapeutic Lifestyle Change” program available to all full-time, permanent Wake Forest University employees free of cost. TLC is designed to help participants develop a healthy and active lifestyle utilizing exercise and education programs.  Photo of fresh tomatoes, lettuce, and a quinoa salad jar

The HELPS TLC program is accepting applications for its next group, which will begin the program on Sept. 13. Interested staff and faculty are encouraged to contact Kristy Lievense at lievk20@wfu.edu or 336.758.3486 to sign up or request more information. Space is limited, so please act soon.

What will I receive?

  • Individualized assessments, therapies and follow-up: Entry physical activity levels are evaluated; this information is used to determine and define the amount of physical activity you need to foster a healthy and active lifestyle.

  • Entry dietary intake is assessed through computer analyzed food records:  Specific calorie, nutrient and food group changes are identified.
  • Entry body composition (including bone density measures): This will be assessed using a DXA scan.
  • Supervised exercise sessions at our conveniently located monitored exercise facility: The facility is located close to campus in the Health & Exercise Science Clinical Research Center beside Truist Field.
  • Weekly small group sessions held virtually via Zoom: These group sessions meet weekly on Mondays, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., beginning Sept. 13. Sessions will cover behavioral strategies for the management of physical activity and nutrition. Cognitive teaching is combined with psychological approaches to take participants beyond the limits of “willpower.” Personal journals are used as a basis for program development, strategy monitoring and evaluation.

If you are a full-time, permanent WFU employee who is able to attend weekly Zoom sessions and wants to commit to lifestyle changes to promote a healthy future, you’re invited to join HELPS TLC!
