Slavery, Race and Memory Project to discuss essay collection on Nov. 19
In the Spring of 2020, the Slavery, Race and Memory Project (SRMP) published a collection of essays, titled
“To Stand With And For Humanity.” The SRMP will host a virtual, public conversation about the publication on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Corey D.B. Walker, professor of the humanities, will moderate a panel discussion among contributors to the collection. Walker edited and wrote a foreword for the book. Panelists include:
- Andrew McNeill Canady (Averett University), chair of the Department of History, Political Science and Religion and associate professor of history
- Kami Chavis, associate provost of academic initiatives, professor of law and director of the Criminal Justice Program in the School of Law
- Derek Hicks, associate professor of religion and culture in the School of Divinity and director of the Center for Research, Engagement and Collaboration in African American Life
- Bill Leonard, founding dean of the School of Divinity and professor of divinity emeritus
- Anthony S. Parent, Jr., professor of history and American ethnic studies
- Tim Pyatt, dean of the Z. Smith Reynolds Library
- Mary Tribble, senior advisor for engagement strategies in the Office of Alumni Engagement
