The return of student-athletes to campus

Today in a Winston-Salem Journal story, “Picture becomes clearer for student-athletes,” athletic director John Currie outlined what he hopes can happen regarding student-athletes and their return to the Wake Forest campus.

This follows the NCAA’s announcement on May 29 of guidelines that aim to help schools safely bring athletes back to campus. Schools can begin voluntary workouts today, and many ACC schools, as well as other schools across the country, are announcing their plans.

At Wake Forest, no final plans have been made for athletes to return to campus yet. Currie set out a three-phase scenario and also focused on establishing health and safety standards as the top priority.

Although the story indicates Wake Forest plans an announcement about the fall semester by June 10, the University announced in April that decisions regarding the fall semester will be shared on or before June 30. That plan has not changed.

When decided, the plan for the return of student-athletes will be announced to the campus community.
