A message about entering campus at the University’s gatehouses

The following announcement was e-mailed to students, faculty and staff on Dec. 19 by Wake Forest Communications and External Relations:

Starting December 20, Wake Forest will begin operating card readers at the University’s gatehouses between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. to streamline access to campus by students, faculty and staff.

When approaching the University Parkway and Reynolda Road entrances during those hours, students, faculty and staff who have their Deacon OneCard may choose to take the outside, right-hand lane and pull up to a card reader where they can scan their card before entering campus.  If they do not have their Deacon OneCard, they will need to use the inside, left-hand lane where a security officer will verify that they are a student or a faculty or staff member.

If anyone experiences difficulty using the card reader, we ask that they remain in their vehicle until the security officer is able to assist them.

Residents of the Faculty Drive and Belle Vista neighborhoods may take advantage of the card readers if they have a Deacon OneCard.  They can also continue to use the gate stickers they already have on their vehicles and enter campus as they have previously. Residents who would like to obtain a Deacon OneCard are asked to visit the Deacon OneCard office in Angelou Residence Hall, Suite 001, with identification. It is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the phone number is 336-758-1949. There will be no charge for the first Deacon OneCard.

Campus visitors, vendors and others will continue using the inside, left-hand lane.  They will be allowed to enter campus once the security officer has verified their reason to be on campus.
