Power outage on Reynolda Campus

A Duke Energy power outage has affected part of the western side of the Reynolda Campus and nearby neighborhoods today. Duke Energy is estimating electricity will be restored to the affected areas between 2-4 p.m. today.

The outage is also affecting some nearby traffic lights, including the one at the Polo Road entrance to campus.

On campus, buildings known to be affected include North Campus Apartments, the Porter Byrum Welcome Center and Starling Hall.  Also without electricity are many University-owned residences on and near Polo and Reynolda Roads, as well as on University Parkway near campus. The Human Resources office at Polo and Reynolda Roads is also without electricity.

Duke Energy reports that numerous private residences, as well as University-owned houses, are affected in the area near campus. An initial estimate was that up to 5,000 Duke Energy customers might be without electricity.

The power outage occurred late in the morning today, shortly before noon.
