Phillips named associate dean for working professional programs

matthew.phillips.150x150Wake Forest University School of Business is pleased to announce Matthew T. Phillips has been named associate dean for working professional programs.

“Matthew brings a deep understanding of our working professional programs, as well as passion for these programs,” said Gordon McCray, vice dean of programs. “Given his multifaceted background and familiarity with our working professional offerings, I look forward to the diverse perspectives and creativity he will bring to his new position.”

U.S. News & World Report has ranked the Working Professional MBA programs #1 in North Carolina and #20 in the nation and Bloomberg Businessweek has ranked the program #27 in the nation. The part-time MBA program, designed for working professionals, is offered at Wake Forest’s main campus in Winston-Salem in the evening, and evenings and Saturdays at the Wake Forest University Charlotte Center in Uptown.

Phillips joined Wake Forest in 2008 and has taught courses in business law and ethics across the School’s undergraduate and graduate programs. He leverages a passion for innovative teaching and experience as a tax and estate planning lawyer to engage students with the practical intersections of law and business. As a Charlotte native and a Winston-Salem resident, Phillips enjoys the opportunity to be active on both of the School’s campuses.

He received undergraduate and law degrees from Wake Forest, and a Master of Divinity from Duke University. He has done additional academic work, concentrating on leadership and ethics, at the U.S. Air Force’s Air University. He is admitted to practice law before state and federal courts of North Carolina, the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Phillips is a member of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business, the North Carolina Bar Association and its Estate Planning and Fiduciary Law Section. As an instrument-rated private pilot, Phillips enjoys flying single-engine planes, and he is a pilot and legal officer in the Civil Air Patrol.
