The American Counseling Association (ACA), the world’s largest association representing professional counselors in various practice settings with over 55,000 members, has set up a new award in honor of Professor of Counseling Samuel T. Gladding (’67, MAEd ’71).
The award will be called the Samuel T. Gladding Unsung Heroes Award and will recognize professional counseling practitioners who often serve without any type of peer recognition.
The first individual to receive the Gladding Award will be announced in March, 2015, at the ACA National Awards ceremony in Orlando, Fla. The award carries an honorarium of $1,000.
Gladding is a past president of the American Counseling Association and a past chair of the American Counseling Association Foundation. He served as chair of the counseling department from January 2003, when the department was established, until July 2014.
