Captain Phillips: PR in Crisis Management – Clint Eisenhauer, Vice President of Government Relations for AP Moller/Maersk Group – Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 6 p.m. – Farrell Hall A17 – The movie “Captain Phillips” tells the true story of the capture of a US-flag cargo vessel in April 2009. What the movie does not address is the global media drama that the incident sparked and the implications of that drama on the families, colleagues governments, law enforcement agencies, companies and organizations directly involved in the incident. This presentation will deal with the communications, crisis management and reputational control issues that were erupting behind the scenes.
Design Talk: The Biology of Symbols – Robert Bringhurst, author of “The Elements of Typographic Style” – Thursday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. – Byrum Welcome Center -Bringhurst’s talk will focus on helping people understand elements of typography and how they play into the work of designers.
