Power outage scheduled for December 30

A power outage is scheduled at Wake Forest on Dec. 30, primarily affecting the area of the campus bordered by Polo Road, Reynolda Road and University Parkway. University Corporate Center on Reynolds Boulevard will be affected, too.

To minimize the possibility of damage to electrical equipment, Facilities and Campus Services is encouraging those on campus to shut down any computers or other electronic devices. Unplugging electronics is suggested, as well as turning off power strips to which they are connected.

In addition, it is suggested that people perform their normal backup routine on computers or any data intensive devices in case such equipment were to fail to restart.

The scheduled outage is because of a planned temporary shutdown of an electrical substation operated by Duke Energy near campus on Cherry Street.

The outage will begin just after 1 p.m. and is projected to last until 4 p.m. or later.  Selected buildings are planned for longer outages, starting after 10 a.m. and lasting until 5 p.m. or later.
