Four WFU professors appointed to fellowships

Wake Forest University has appointed three faculty members to Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation Fellowships: Miles Silman, assistant professor of biology; Margaret Bender, assistant professor of anthropology; and Angela Hattery, associate professor of sociology.

Cindy Gendrich, assistant professor of theatre and dance, was also appointed to a Junior Faculty Fellowship. Silman, Bender and Gendrich will become tenured associate professors July 1, and all four fellowship appointments will last for three years.

The fellowships are designed to affirm and reward the university’s most able and promising young faculty members by supporting and encouraging professional development.

The ZSR Foundation Fellowship is funded by the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation. The Junior Faculty Fellowship is funded through gifts to the Heritage and Promise Capital Campaign at Wake Forest.

The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation was founded in Winston-Salem in 1936 by the siblings of Zachary Smith Reynolds under the counsel of their uncle, William Neal Reynolds. The organization’s goal is to accomplish charitable works in the state of North Carolina.
