Cherin C. Poovey has been named associate university editor for publications and director of public affairs projects at Wake Forest University.

She had been associate university editor and director of publications. Poovey joined the Wake Forest staff in 1984 as a writer and editor at the School of Medicine. In 1987, she became the assistant university editor in the Office of University Advancement on the university’s Reynolda campus. She previously held reporting and editing positions at the Winston-Salem Journal and the Hickory Daily Record.

A native of Chapel Hill, Poovey is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is the daughter of Gertrude J. Chewning of Chapel Hill.

Poovey has won numerous awards for writing and publications, including several national awards from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.
