Umit Akinc, a professor with the Calloway School of Business and Accountancy at Wake Forest University, was recently appointed to the Thomas H. Davis Chair.

The Davis Chair recognizes Akinc’s contributions to his academic field and the Calloway School. Akinc, who joined Wake Forest’s faculty in 1982, is an expert on production management and management science. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Akinc was active in the university’s initiative to integrate computer and information technology in the curriculum.

Employees of Piedmont Airlines established the position to honor Thomas H. Davis, the company’s founder. Davis, a Winston-Salem resident, is a life member of Wake Forest’s Board of Trustees.
