Kimberly S. Griffing and Wayne Thompson have been named media relations officers in the Wake Forest University News Bureau.

Previously, Griffing was an award-winning reporter with The Winchester Star in Winchester, Va. A 1992 graduate of Wake Forest, she earned a master’s degree in mass communications from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1994.

Thompson, a Kernersville resident and 1984 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s journalism school, was a public relations specialist at Wake Forest’s Bowman Gray School of Medicine for six years before joining the news bureau staff. Winner of numerous writing, public relations and marketing awards, Thompson also has worked as a reporter with the Winston-Salem Journal, the Culpeper (Va.) Star-Exponent and WCHL-AM in Chapel Hill. As part of his responsibilities as a media relations officer, he will be the news bureau’s World Wide Web specialist.
