Associate professor of German Heiko Wiggers has died

Associate professor of German Heiko Wiggers passed away on April 10. He was a faculty member in the German and Russian department for 19 years. In addition to teaching, he led the Business German program and managed summer internships in Germany for students.

Professor Wiggers grew up in northern Germany and received an MA from the University of Washington, Seattle, and his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. His publications included articles and book chapters on Low German, endangered languages, sociolinguistics, and Business German.

Wiggers co-edited, “Germanic Philology: Perspectives in Linguistics and Literature,” with his colleague and German and Russian department chair Tina Boyer. The book will be published in May.
