Gladding named president of marriage/family counselors group

Professor of Counseling Sam Gladding has been elected president of the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors (IAMFC). The presidency is a two-year term beginning July 1, 2018. Gladding becomes president elect July 1, 2017.

The International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors (IAMFC) is a division of the American Counseling Association (ACA)

IAMFC promotes excellence in the practice of couples and family counseling by:

  • Creating and disseminating first-class publications and media products, e.g., an international journal in family counseling, The Family Journal;
  • Providing a forum for exploration of family-related issues –including an annual workshop in England
  •  Offering a national/international family counseling & therapy certification through the National Credentialing Academy (NCA);  and
  • Providing a professional set of ethical standards for working with couples and families.

Gladding is a past president of the American Counseling Association and a past chair of the American Counseling Association Foundation. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Wake Forest, in addition to receiving a master’s degree at Yale University and a doctorate at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  He joined Wake Forest’s faculty in 1990 and has also served in administrative positions, including associate provost and assistant to the president for special projects.
