Campus libraries launch new discovery interface

This week, Wake Forest University libraries launched Primo, a new discovery interface that adds functionality at a time when online library services are more important than ever. Students, faculty and staff will use Primo to access their library accounts and search catalogs and databases. The new platform will be used campus-wide.

The Library is offering a series of PDC online workshops to help orient you to Primo and highlight key features. Workshops will cover finding books, journals and articles, as well as virtually browsing campus stacks. Participants will learn how to manage course reserves, holds, ZSR delivers, library accounts and more.

ZSR will post instructional videos on its YouTube channel and create additional aids for reference and sharing with students. Librarians are available to set up online appointments for one-on-one instruction and to present virtually to your classes to show how best to use the new system.

ZSR and your library liaisons are available to answer your questions about Primo and how to harness its new features for teaching and research success.

Local bakery will offer new dining options on Reynolda Campus this fall

Camino Bakery, a local business in Winston-Salem, will be opening on Reynolda Campus in August when the fall semester begins. The former Starbucks location in ZSR library is being renovated this summer for the transition.

The bakery will serve specialty coffees, pastries, scones, muffins and bagels, as well as a variety of lunch items and desserts. Vegan and gluten-free options will be available.

“We are excited about the variety of new dining choices that will be available in ZSR library for the campus community. Additionally, the partnership with Camino Bakery is an opportunity for Wake Forest to support a local business that is committed to investing in our broader community,” said Dean of the Z. Smith Reynolds Library Tim Pyatt.

Maya Angelou Garden Party available on Apple podcast

For the past three years, the Wake Downtown Student Ambassadors and ZSR Library Ambassadors have collaborated to organize a Garden Party to celebrate Dr. Maya Angelou’s birthday and legacy. The party and public celebration, which has been held in Bailey Park in downtown Winston-Salem, included spoken word, poetry, food trucks, lawn games and more.

This year due to concerns regarding the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Garden Party was not able to take place in person.

However, a pre-recorded podcast has been created with original poems and spoken words from community and University volunteers. The podcast also includes clips from various interviews with Dr. Angelou and songs that celebrate the vibrancy of life.

Maya Angelou’s great-niece Dori Colly is featured, and the podcast includes a poetry reading from Professor Emeritus of English and Provost Emeritus for Wake Forest University Ed Wilson.

The Garden Party Podcast is available on Apple Podcast.

Come celebrate the grand opening of 'One Button Studio'

A guest post from Mur Muchane, Vice President for Information Technology & CIO

Please join us on Friday, September 7, from 1 p.m to 4 p.m., for the grand opening celebration of the One Button Studio, located behind the Information Systems Service Desk, in the Z. Smith Reynolds Library.

As part of Information Systems, Academic Technology facilitates the innovative and imaginative use of technologies to enhance and strengthen teaching and learning at Wake Forest. The introduction of the One Button Studio is another step forward in meeting the pedagogical needs of our campus community.

Throughout higher education, students are producing digital artifacts such as short documentaries and podcasts to either replace or support more traditional evidence of learning.

The One Button Studio is a simplified video recording setup that can be used without any previous video production experience. The design of the studio allows you to create high-quality and polished video projects without having to know anything about lights, microphones and cameras. You only need to bring your USB thumb drive and push a single button.
