University to launch new calendar application

The University Calendar (http://calendar.wfu.edu) doesn’t see a lot of visits in the summer. But that doesn’t mean things aren’t happening.

Communications and External Relations (CER) Digital is launching a new University calendar application Thursday, June 6, to make it easier to submit events and, in turn, attract more attendees to those events.

The new calendar is a partnership with the online calendaring solution Localist. Other partners with Localist include Cornell University, Johns Hopkins University, and Georgetown University.

Server upgrade and WordPress security

On Saturday, Feb. 9, during regularly scheduled maintenance, Information Systems will perform an upgrade to the campus cPanel web servers.

During this upgrade, MySQL will be upgraded to a current version to maintain software support and enhance functionality. You may experience a brief outage of 10 minutes or less during the upgrade. This upgrade, which applies to the database software on the cPanel web servers, may cause your web pages to function improperly. A backup of all data will be performed before the upgrade.

In an effort to increase security, future WordPress logins and administration will only be allowed from on-campus network connections or by using VPN to connect to the campus network.

If you discover that your web pages are not functioning properly after the upgrade, please contact Information Systems at 336.758.4357 or help@wfu.edu and a member of the Information Systems will assist you.
