Board of Trustees announces members and officers

The members of the Board of Trustees of Wake Forest University are pleased to announce its next class of Trustees and Officers, for the term beginning July 1, 2019.

New Board members include:

Kyle R. Adams (’21) (Henrico, Va.) is a junior philosophy major.  He carries several leadership roles at Wake Forest.  He serves on the Call to Conversation Executive Committee, co-hosted the Veritas Forum, serves as a student ambassador for the Arts of Leading Conference and organized the Stamps Scholars National Day of Service.  He also is an ambassador-in-admissions and a student advisor in the Office of Academic Advising.

Peter M. (Pete) Carlson (’87) (Charlotte, N.C.) is special advisor to the president and CEO of Brighthouse Financial. He joined Brighthouse in 2017 after serving as chief operating officer of MetLife.  Previously, he was controller at Wachovia Corporation and an audit partner at Arthur Anderson LLP.

James M. O’Connell (’13) (Tampa, Fla.) is president of Vinik Family Office, the private investment office of Jeff Vinik.  He previously served as Jeff Vinik’s chief of staff. He also was a fellow in the Office of the President at Wake Forest and an intern in the Obama White House.

Gary S. Pinkus (Woodside, Calif.) is chairman of McKinsey & Company in North America, which he joined in 1987.  At McKinsey, he serves clients across multiple industries and topics, including leading companies in private equity, healthcare, oil and gas, and commercial vehicles.

Returning members elected to a new term include:

Diana Moon Adams (’78) (Bartlesville, Okla.) is president and vice chair of Adams Investment Company.  She and her husband, Kenneth Adams, also own and manage other business and ranching enterprises.

Donna A. Boswell (’72, ’74 MA) (Winston-Salem) served three terms as chair of the Board of Trustees.  She was the first woman to chair the board.  She retired as a partner in the health group of the law firm Hogan Lovells US LLP.  Before joining the law firm, she was a faculty member at Wesleyan University. She has chaired the WFU Health Sciences and WFU Baptist Medical Center Boards of Directors, previously, and is currently a member on both boards.

Candy M. Ergen (Littleton, Colo.) co-founded EchoStar Communications Corporation in 1980 with her future husband, Charlie Ergen, and another business partner.  She has held a variety of operational responsibilities at EchoStar, including serving on its board of directors until the company was split into EchoStar and Dish Network. She now serves on the Dish Network board.

Matthew A. (Matt) King (’82) (Brentwood, Tenn.) is managing partner of FCA Venture Partners and president and chief manager of Triple Play Ventures LLC.  He serves as director of nine FCA and Triple Play portfolio companies and is a director of Truxton Trust. He also serves on the WFU Health Sciences Board of Directors.

Deborah D. (Debbie) Lambert (’78) (Pinehurst, N.C. and Park City, Utah) is a founding partner of the accounting firm Johnson Lambert LLP and serves as its co-managing partner.

Michael J. (Mike) Selverian (St. Davids, Pa.) is a private investor and a former partner with Gamma Investors, an investment firm he co-founded. Previously, he was with the Cooper Neff Group, an options trading firm.

Katherine B. (Kathy) Wright (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) has been active in the healthcare field and in community organizations.  She presently works as community and corporate relations outreach liaison for NV5 Inc., a publicly traded engineering and environmental services firm. Previously, she was a consultant with TeleHealth companies.
