Professor and filmmaker Joel Tauber’s documentary to premier Oct. 17 and 18

It’s been nearly one year since filmmaker and Wake Forest associate professor Joel Tauber undertook “Border-Ball,” a 40-day pilgrimage along the U.S.-Mexico border to build community through baseball. Joel Tauber wearing red, white and blue baseball uniform at US-Mexico border

Wearing a custom vintage baseball uniform and backpack in blue, white, and red, Tauber tossed a baseball as he walked along the border and invited people to walk with him and play catch. He filmed people he met and gathered personal reflections and stories related to the border and immigration.

A virtual exhibition on Tauber’s pilgrimage exploring immigration, compassion and hope will open on Saturday, Oct. 17 with ArtCenter DTLA in Los Angeles, California, launching the online premiere of the “Border-Ball” documentary.

The film will be available to the public through the ArtCenter’s virtual exhibition page on Oct. 17 and 18. The “Border Ball” trailer is available here. The exhibition page also includes links to a blog where visitors can share their own immigration stories and read those shared by others.

Students to turn Bailey Power Plant downtown into public art

Wake Forest students are turning the Bailey Power Plant in Innovation Quarter into a modern work of art tonight, Feb. 27.

Students in Associate Professor of Art Joel Tauber’s “Filmmaking and Video Art” class will project video content onto Bailey Power Plant with the hopes of prompting community conversation and progress. In telling stories of local places and people, the students hope their public art display will bring together Winston-Salem’s diverse communities.

All–including Wake Forest students, faculty and staff–are invited to attend the event and a reception in Bailey Park tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. Students involved in the project will speak about the project and their inspiration.

In the event of rain, the event will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 28, same location.
