President Hatch: Congratulations to retiring faculty and staff

This message was sent by President Hatch to faculty and staff on May 10.  Retirees recognized at the 2017 Retiree Luncheon had informed Human Resources by March 24 of their retirement.

Dear Faculty and Staff,

As commencement approaches and we prepare to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2017, we also pause to recognize and honor the careers of our retiring faculty and staff members.

Please join me in thanking this distinguished group of leaders, colleagues, mentors and friends and congratulating them on many years of dedicated service to Wake Forest.  On May 9, these retirees were honored at the 2017 Retiree Luncheon at Bridger Field House.

Parasites and Infectious Disease: Discovery by Serendipity, and Otherwise

Gerald EschGerald Esch read an excerpt from his book, “Parasites and Infectious Disease: Discovery by Serendipity, and Otherwise” for a program on BBC Radio. His 2007 book deals with the role of serendipity in discovery as it applies to parasitism and infectious disease. The segment on the weekly BBC program, “Something Understood,” was about how serendipity — finding something unexpected and useful while searching for something else entirely — influences and molds our lives. Esch’s book was featured along with selections from Sigmund Freud and Lewis Carroll. Read more.
