Creative Exchange: Students showcase films in collaboration with IS

Information Systems Academic Technology has recently launched Creative Exchange, a new initiative designed to spark creative dialogue and community among our faculty, staff, and students. Every month, there is an informal conversation and lecture about a creative topic happening in our community.
Please join us this month, Friday, Oct. 25, at 10:30 a.m. in the ZSR Library Auditorium, for a showcase of student short films. These films will be produced earlier in the week by students during Academic Technology’s Halloween Film Festival. During the Film Festival, students will spend a full afternoon and evening scripting, getting equipment training, producing, and editing their very own spooky short film.
Last month, Creative Exchange was hosted by Craig Fansler, who described his work as a preservation librarian and demonstrated his working printing press and handmade books. Future Creative Exchanges will provide more opportunities to highlight the creative endeavors of our faculty, staff, and students, and further connections between members of our community. ZSR faculty and staff news
Staff and faculty of Z. Smith Reynolds Library were recently elected to professional organization offices for terms starting July 2015:
Christian Burris, serials acquisition coordinator, was elected to the executive board of NASIG as a member-at-large for a two-year term.
Carolyn McCallum, non-print resources cataloging librarian, was elected as secretary of the anthropology and sociology Section (ANSS) of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) for a two-year term.
Susan Sharpless Smith, associate dean, was elected to the Board of LITA (The Library and Information Technology Association is a division of American Library Association) as a director-at-large for a three-year term.

Faculty, staff hit the bricks

Faculty and staff helped the Wake Forest community “Hit the Bricks” hard this year, joining with students to run nearly 23,000 laps around Hearn Plaza and to raise close to $30,000 for cancer research and the Brian Piccolo Cancer Fund.

“Hit the Bricks” is part of a series of student-run events and activities to honor the former Chicago Bears running back, Brian Piccolo, who attended Wake Forest in the 1960s. The 1971 film, “Brian’s Song,” was based on the real-life relationship between teammates Brian Piccolo and Gale Sayers and the bond established when Piccolo discovers he is dying of cancer at the age of 26.
