The Wake Forest University Police Department is hosting an open house Feb. 1 at Alumni Hall, where it recently moved its administrative offices from the H.S. Moore Building.

The police department is inviting students, faculty and staff to Alumni Hall to help the department celebrate having its first new home since the 1980s.  An open house will be held from 2 to 4 p.m.

Visitors, including off-campus community partners, will be taken on guided tours following brief opening remarks by various speakers and a ribbon cutting formally opening the department’s new offices.  Light refreshments will be served.

Speakers include President Nathan O. Hatch and Vice President for Campus Life Penny Rue.

During the winter break, the police department moved into Alumni Hall, where University Advancement and Parking and Transportation are also located.

The spring semester has opened with the Wake Forest University Police Department in a new home.  During the winter break, the police department moved into Alumni Hall, where University Advancement and Parking and Transportation are also located.

The police department moved into the area of Alumni Hall formerly occupied by Residence Life and Housing and the Deacon OneCard office, which moved into the newly-built Maya Angelou Residence Hall.

The police department is inviting students, faculty and staff to Alumni Hall on Feb. 1 to help the department celebrate having its first new home since the 1980s.  An open house will be held from 2 to 4 p.m.

Visitors, including off-campus community partners, will be taken on guided tours following brief opening remarks by various speakers and a ribbon cutting formally opening the department’s new offices.  Light refreshments will be served.

“We are pleased to be in our new professional and welcoming space. We can much better serve our community and meet the day to day operational needs of the University Police Department,” said University Police Chief Regina Lawson, who joined the department in 1989.

Until now, Lawson had worked her entire Wake Forest career in the department’s former offices in the H.S. Moore Building located at the far southern end of campus.  They had shared the building with Facilities and Campus Services.

“All of us in the University Police Department hope to see many of our campus community members and off-campus community partners at our open house,” Lawson said.  “As chief, I would like to see our students, faculty, staff and others become familiar with our new home and more familiar with all of us who are committed to serving Wake Forest.”

The police department’s business offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. People can call the department 24/7 on its emergency line, 336-758-5911, or its business line, 336-758-5591.

At present, the police department’s communication center remains in Davis Residence Hall.  It is open to receive visitors 24/7.  The center will move into Alumni Hall this spring.

Temporary road closing planned for July 2

A portion of Carroll Weathers Drive will be closed from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. July 2, requiring a slight detour for campus drivers. Carroll Weathers Drive runs past the side of Worrell Professional Center, as well as Alumni Hall before crossing Wake Forest Road and continuing past Farrell Hall.

Closed will be the section that runs directly alongside Worrell Professional Center where construction is underway.

Lot W1 and other area parking lots will remain open and accessible.

Construction company workers will be available to direct drivers.

Road in front of Alumni Hall will close at night this week

Because of a steam leak in the line that feeds Alumni Hall, Facilities & Campus Services will be closing the road in front of Alumni Hall each evening beginning Tuesday, Sept. 17, from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. to make repairs. Work should be complete by Saturday morning at 7 a.m.

Steel plates will be installed over the openings in the road during daylight hours to allow normal traffic flow. Please use caution as you go through the area.

As part of the repair, there will be no steam available to Alumni Hall. This will affect domestic hot water (sinks) and HVAC reheat. Facilities & Campus Services will monitor and adjust room temperatures as necessary.

Police Communications Center to move temporarily

The University Police Communications Center will move after commencement from Davis Residence Hall into Alumni Hall on a temporary basis.  The move is required by renovation of the police communications center.

Starting on the afternoon of May 20, the police communications center will be located in Alumni Hall, Room 164, until June 11.

No disruption of service will occur.  Calls to the communications center — emergency and non-emergency — will be answered, as always.

To visit the center’s Alumni Hall location, enter the building at the entrance that also leads to offices for Residence Life and Housing, Parking and Transportation and Deacon One Card.  Follow signs. After hours, there is a phone at the building’s entrance that can be used to call the communications center and request admission to the building.

The emergency number for University Police is 758.5911 from a campus phone and 336.758.5911 from a cell phone.  The non-emergency number from a campus phone is 758.5591 and 336.758.5591 from a cell phone.
