Campus United Way campaign closes with raffle and auction

An Amazon Kindle, a week at Sea Spray Beach, and $500 in landscaping services are among the more than 50 items that will be available at this week’s United Way Raffle and Auction, the finale event for the 2010 Wake Forest Campus Campaign.

The finale will be Dec. 2 from 2-4 p.m. in the Benson University Center, room 401. All faculty, staff and students are invited, regardless of whether they have made a pledge to the United Way.

In 2009, the closing event raised an additional $4,500 for the campus campaign, on top of pledges and donations from staff. Organizers expect this year’s raffle and auction is expected to raise that amount or more.

“The auction and raffle is an opportunity for all members of the campus community to come together, have fun, and have a chance to win some great items while supporting the United Way of Forsyth County,” said Mary Wayne-Thomas, professor of theatre and chair of the 2010 United Way campus campaign. “It’s also a great way to start — or finish — your holiday shopping.”

All staff who increased their United Way donation by $25 will receive one ticket to the raffle. Another ticket is earned for each $25 increase in the pledge. Auction items will be auctioned both by silent auction and live auction during the event. For more information, contact Mary Wayne-Thomas at wayne@wfu.edu.
