Message regarding commencement parking, traffic

This message was sent May 14 on behalf of Executive Vice President Hof Milam to faculty and staff:

Dear Reynolda Campus Faculty and Staff:

Commencement is the highlight of our academic year.  It is a wonderful time for the campus community to come together and celebrate with graduating students and their families.  This year’s commencement ceremony will be held Monday, May 21, on Hearn Plaza, beginning at  9 a.m.

It is always important for us to be gracious hosts to our visitors and make sure their access to campus is as easy as possible.  To make this the best commencement experience possible for our graduates and guests, please observe the following guidelines:

–Faculty and staff should not attempt to park on campus prior to 1 p.m. on the day of commencement.  Passes, which have been issued to graduates and their families, will be required for all cars entering campus.

–Faculty and staff who need parking should park at the Joel Coliseum and ride the shuttle to campus.  Enter the coliseum parking lot via University Parkway or Deacon Boulevard and follow the signs to the parking area and the shuttle pickup point.  Shuttles will depart from the south side of the Joel Coliseum and run continuously throughout the day from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Please note that parking will not be available at the football stadium.

–Faculty and staff may park on campus after 1 p.m.

–Reynolda Campus staff who do not have a direct commencement responsibility need not report for work until 9:30 a.m. on Monday, unless otherwise required by their department.

Please have your Wake Forest I.D. with you at all times on campus during commencement.

In case of rain, the commencement ceremony will be held at Joel Coliseum, beginning at 9:30 a.m.  Parking on campus will not be affected if the ceremony is held at the coliseum.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Sincerely,

Hof Milam
Executive Vice President

Graduates, families encouraged to pay attention to commencement weather plan

This announcement was emailed to students, faculty and staff on May 16 by Wake Forest Communications and External Relations:

With inclement weather potentially in the forecast on Monday, May 21, Wake Forest University commencement organizers encourage graduates and their families to pay special attention to the severe weather plan.

University leaders will continue to monitor conditions and will make every attempt to hold the commencement ceremony outside on Hearn Plaza. In the event of some rain, commencement exercises may still continue outdoors. Ponchos will be available for graduates, but guests are encouraged to bring their own rain gear and plan accordingly.

If weather predictions suggest a threat to safety or conditions that prevent us from holding commencement outside, the University will announce a move to the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Sunday evening. Additional information is included in the severe weather plan.

Commencement: How to see it on the web and cable
