Greek Alumni Advisory Board established
In August 2015, the Office of Alumni Engagement and the Division of Campus Life brought together a diverse group of alumni representing various fraternity and sorority organizations to hear about what is happening in Greek life at Wake Forest and across the nation, and to talk about ways that the student experience here can be strengthened. Among the solutions proposed at that gathering was the creation of an advisory board relating to the fraternity and sorority experience at Wake Forest.
Now, the newly established Greek Alumni Advisory Board (GAAB) aims to serve as a bridge between alumni and the University in order to educate alumni about fraternity and sorority life today and to positively influence the student experience. The board also wants to support and strengthen the role of chapter advisors, as the University recognizes chapters with strong advisers tend to make better decisions.
The mission of the GAAB is: “Connecting yesterday’s and today’s Greeks to strengthen the spirit of Pro Humanitate.” Members include:

Leadership Development Program focuses on a global WFU
Congratulations to the 2013-14 Leadership Development Program (LDP) participants: Miriam Ashley-Ross, Nate French, Allison McWilliams, Tim Auman, Anne Hardcastle, Paige Meltzer, Alessandra Beasley Von Burg, Robert Hellyer, Matt Merrick, Andrea Bohn, Beth Hoagland, Lori Messer, Christy Buchanan, Brad Jones, José Villalba, Thomas Dowling, Angela Mazaris, Ron Von Berg
Program participants included 18 faculty and staff from various departments across campus that serve in leadership roles.
The nine-month program kicked off last August with a two-day intensive session structured around a 360° assessment for each member. The developmental topics offered throughout the year included: Leading Authentically, Communicating Authentically, Powerful Conversations, Reinventing Diversity, Thriving in Times of Change, Leading with Your Strengths, and Leading Authentically: Putting it all Together.

Symposium focuses on first-generation students
“First Experiences: A Symposium on First-Generation College Students” will be held on Tuesday, April 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event, which is open to Wake Forest faculty and staff, will provide an opportunity to discuss best practices and opportunities to better serve first-generation students.
The program includes presentations on “Success for First-Generation College Students,” from Jennifer Engle, vice president for policy research at the Institute for Higher Education Policy; and on “Rewarding Strivers” by Richard Kahlenberg, senior fellow at the Century Foundation.
In addition, there will be a panel discussion featuring Cynthia Demetriou, director of retention at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Nathaniel “Nate” French, director of the Magnolia Scholars program at Wake Forest; and Esther Freeman, director for the Watson and Odyssey Scholars program at Elon University.
