Livestreaming planned for Maya Angelou Hall ceremony

A ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony for Maya Angelou Hall will be available for anyone to view through livestreaming on Feb. 17. It will be livestreamed at go.wfu.edu/angelouhall.

The residence hall, which opened this semester, is named in honor of world-renowned writer, professor and civil rights activist Maya Angelou, who was Reynolds Professor of American Studies at Wake Forest until her death in 2014.

The 3 p.m. ceremony will include remarks by Angelou’s grandson, Elliott Jones.  Legendary singer and songwriter Valerie Ashford Simpson will perform a musical tribute.

Wake Forest leaders–including President Nathan Hatch, Vice President for Campus Life Penny Rue, Maya Angelou Presidential Chair Melissa Harris-Perry, Dean of Residence Life and Housing Donna McGalliard and Chief Diversity Officer Barbee Oakes–will also speak at the event open to the Wake Forest community.

Open house to be held Feb. 1 at police department's new home

Wake Forest University holds its annual Commencement ceremony on Hearn Plaza on Monday, May 16, 2011.

The Wake Forest University Police Department is hosting an open house Feb. 1 at Alumni Hall, where it recently moved its administrative offices from the H.S. Moore Building.

The police department is inviting students, faculty and staff to Alumni Hall to help the department celebrate having its first new home since the 1980s.  An open house will be held from 2 to 4 p.m.

Visitors, including off-campus community partners, will be taken on guided tours following brief opening remarks by various speakers and a ribbon cutting formally opening the department’s new offices.  Light refreshments will be served.

Speakers include President Nathan O. Hatch and Vice President for Campus Life Penny Rue.

During the winter break, the police department moved into Alumni Hall, where University Advancement and Parking and Transportation are also located.

Residence Life, Deacon OneCard begin moving Dec. 12

This announcement was emailed to students, faculty and staff by Communications and External Relations:

Construction continues on the new residence hall on the south campus of Wake Forest University on Wednesday, November 16, 2016.

The Residence Life and Housing Office and the Deacon OneCard Office will begin Monday, Dec. 12, moving to a new location on campus.

Currently located in Alumni Hall, both offices will move to the ground floor of Maya Angelou Residence Hall, which is scheduled to open for residential students in January 2017.

The entrance for the offices will be at the rear of Maya Angelou Residence Hall.  The building is located at the corner of Wingate Road and Jasper Memory Lane.

Due to on-going construction at the new location for the remainder of this year, the offices’ services will be limited until Jan. 2.
