Faculty information for Convocation

A message for faculty from Harold L. Pace, assistant provost and university registrar:

As is our tradition, the Wake Forest community will gather on Founders’ Day to remember our history and our early leaders whose devotion and ideals laid a strong foundation on which we build. During the Convocation at 4 p.m. on Feb. 21 in Wait Chapel, six of your colleagues will be honored with awards in the areas of teaching, research, and service. President Nathan Hatch will award the highest honor bestowed by the University, the Medallion of Merit. Three of our seniors will present orations, and the 2013 senior class will be honored in a video.

Faculty are encouraged but not required to participate in the academic processional.  Those processing will wear regalia and meet the Marshals at 3:40 p.m. in front of the Post Office. If you need regalia, the University Events Office lends plain black robes and mortarboards (but not hoods) to faculty who will be processing.  If you need to borrow regalia, send your height, hat size and contact information to Melissa Avent at aventme@wfu.edu by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19.  More information is available at http://convocation.wfu.edu/

A reception following the Convocation will be held in the lobby of Scales Fine Arts Center.

Students, faculty and alumni will be honored during the annual Founders’ Day Convocation, celebrating Wake Forest’s founding, on Feb. 17. The program will be held at 4 p.m. in Wait Chapel. A reception will be held immediately afterwards in the lobby of the Scales Fine Arts Center.

The program will feature seniors Catherine Berenato, Ashley Gedraitis and Ava Petrash, who will present their senior orations reflecting on their four years at Wake Forest. Every year, faculty members nominate outstanding seniors to prepare orations; 10 students are invited to present their orations before a faculty panel at the Senior Colloquium, and the panel selects the three finalists.
