Reminder: Test of Wake Alert system set for Feb. 16

This announcement was emailed to students, faculty and staff on Feb. 15 by Wake Forest Communications and External Relations:

This is a reminder that students, faculty and staff will receive test messages starting at 9 a.m. Feb. 16 when Wake Forest conducts a test of the University’s Wake Alert emergency notification system.  The test will not require any action by those who receive the test messages.

The test is being conducted to assure that all aspects of the emergency notification system are operating properly.

The test will consist of the following:

–The outdoor alert system will be activated.  Chimes will be heard.
–A text message will be sent to undergraduate students.  The same message will be sent to graduate/professional students, faculty and staff who have registered to receive emergency messages.  (Information on how to sign up.)
–A message will be placed on the Wake Alert website (wakealert.wfu.edu).  A link to the site will be placed at the top of the University home page (wfu.edu).
–An email will be sent to students, faculty and staff.
–A voice mail message will be sent to faculty and staff.
–A message will be placed on the University’s weather/emergency phone line.
–Social media will be activated, particularly the Wake Alert Twitter account (@WakeAlert).

The test will be conducted by the University Police Department and the University’s Office of Communications and External Relations.

Reminder: Police communications center to move March 6

This message was emailed to students, faculty and staff on March 3 by the Office of Communications and External Relations:

Early next week, the University Police Department is asking for the campus community’s help if a fire alarm is activated in a University building.

Between approximately 7 a.m. March 6 and 7 a.m. March 7, community members who become aware of an activated fire alarm are asked to call the University Police Department immediately at 336-758-5911 (911 from a University phone).

During that 24-hour time, the University Police Department will be moving its communications center from Davis Residence Hall to Alumni Hall.  Fire alarms will sound in buildings during the move, but the automatic system that alerts the University Police Department and the Winston-Salem Fire Department will not work. Without a call from community members, the University Police Department and the Winston-Salem Fire Department may not be aware of the alarm activation.

Once the alarm systems in buildings resume operating normally, an email will be sent to students, faculty and staff.

Fire alarms in the following buildings will be affected:

–All Reynolda Campus buildings
–Athletic Facilities off campus, including Bridger Field House, the Indoor Tennis Center, the Clinical Research Center and the east concourse of BB&T Field
–Graylyn Center buildings, including the Manor House, Bernard Cottage, the Mews, the Gardener’s Cottage and the Management House
–Houses associated with Wake Forest on Polo Road (1109, 1115, 1125, 1141-B, 1145, 1157 and 1210) and Rosedale Circle (109/111)

Responses to emergency and non-emergency calls will not be affected during the move.  A non-emergency number at the police department is 336-758-5591 (5591 from a University phone).

If anyone has questions about the move of the communications center to Alumni Hall, they may contact Wake Forest Emergency Manager August Vernon at 336-758-3377.
