Rowell named as ALA Emerging Leader
Chelcie Rowell, digital initiatives librarian at Z. Smith Reynolds Library, has been named to the American Libraries Association (ALA) Emerging Leader class of 2016.
This program is designed to enable library staff and information workers to participate in project planning work groups, network with peers, gain an inside look into ALA structure and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity early in their careers.
She is being sponsored by the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS).

Open forum scheduled for ZSR Library dean search
The search committee for the new dean of the Z. Smith Reynolds Library is hosting an open forum for all Wake Forest faculty and staff on Thursday, Dec. 4, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the ZSR Library Auditorium.
In preparation for the gathering, please consider the following questions and come prepared to share your thoughts.
- Which major highlights about our nationally-recognized ZSR Library should be emphasized in order to attract top-notch candidates to the position?
- What challenges and opportunities might the next dean face in her or his first three years in this role?
- What are the most important professional skills and personal attributes required to be considered a strong candidate?

Rowell named Institute for Research Design in Librarianship scholar
Chelcie Rowell, digital initiatives librarian at the Z. Smith Reynolds Library, has been selected as a scholar to the Institute for Research Design in Librarianship (IRDL). The IRDL is an intensive nine-day residential program designed to provide training and support to a diverse group of academic and research librarians who are motivated to conduct research. The Institute will take place at Loyola Marymount University in June.

Faculty, staff hit the bricks

Faculty and staff helped the Wake Forest community “Hit the Bricks” hard this year, joining with students to run nearly 23,000 laps around Hearn Plaza and to raise close to $30,000 for cancer research and the Brian Piccolo Cancer Fund.

“Hit the Bricks” is part of a series of student-run events and activities to honor the former Chicago Bears running back, Brian Piccolo, who attended Wake Forest in the 1960s. The 1971 film, “Brian’s Song,” was based on the real-life relationship between teammates Brian Piccolo and Gale Sayers and the bond established when Piccolo discovers he is dying of cancer at the age of 26.
