Workday Learning launches today at Wake Forest

This message is shared on behalf of the Professional Development Center (PDC).

Workday Learning, a user-friendly learning management system (LMS), officially launched today for Wake Forest University faculty and staff. The “Learning” worklet is now available in Workday. Faculty and staff can learn more about how to browse and enroll in courses by reviewing this short video and job aid. Additional written materials and microlearning training videos are available under the “Training & Support” worklet.

Workday Learning will replace the PDC Online, along with portions of the current PDC reservation system. As we train and support campus partners through the transition to Workday Learning, the PDC will remain active until January 2022. During this transition period, faculty and staff will register for some classes through Workday Learning and will register for other classes through the current PDC. We will work with campus partners to communicate the appropriate system location to faculty and staff. We apologize for any inconvenience during this transition, but we look forward to the improved learning administration capabilities and increased efficiency that Workday Learning offers.

Should you have any questions about Workday Learning or the PDC transition, please email the PDC at pdc@wfu.edu.

Wake Forest Police Citizens' Academy to be offered in 2019

The Wake Forest University Police Department has scheduled a citizens’ academy for early 2019.

In recent years, the police department has scheduled the citizens’ academies to help University community members gain insight into the daily functions and responsibilities of the department and its personnel.  The goal, overall, of the academy is to improve police and community interaction.  Ideally, graduates will be able to share their new knowledge with others in the community, thereby helping others become more familiar with University Police.

The academy will present lunch and learn weekly sessions on eight occasions, starting Jan. 31.  Graduation will be April 3.  Those who attend five sessions receive a diploma in recognition of their attendance.  Lunch for the sessions will be provided to attendees.

All sessions will be held at the University Police Department in Alumni Hall.

Topics to be covered include, in part, use of force/firearms safety, community oriented policing, event security, the University’s communications 911 center, and more.

Registration is required through the Professional Development Center.

University to present class on responding to violent situations

There will be four opportunities in March and April for faculty, staff and students to attend a University class titled “Active Shooter Response (Run, Hide, Fight).”  The one-hour class is intended to instruct people on how to respond to an active shooter incident or other types of work place violence.  It stresses awareness, preparation and rehearsal, which are considered by experts to be key to safety in such situations.

The class may be taken on any of the following four dates:

  • 28, 8:30-9:30 a.m.
  • March 16, 10-11 a.m.
  • April 4, 10-11 a.m.
  • April 25, 1-2 p.m.

The class will be taught in Reynolda Hall, Room 301, by Wake Forest Emergency Manager August Vernon.

Registration is encouraged.  To register, visit the Professional Development Center website.

A message from Kris Shelton, instructional designer, Center for Leadership and Character at the Wake Forest School of Business

banner.snowday.400x225Snow days are coming! Last winter, Wake Forest University had 10 days where classes were either delayed or cancelled due to snow and ice. To help faculty and staff across the University be prepared to use technology to run a virtual class during a snow day, the Center for Leadership & Character is co-sponsoring with the Collaborative Technologies Team and the Instructional Technologies Group the “Build an Extra Class Day! Web Tools Workshop Series.”

The “Choose Your Snow Day Adventure” workshop, the first in the Web Tools Workshop Series, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 30 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Farrell Hall, Room 108.
