Prayer Walk scheduled for Hearn Plaza on Oct. 4

This announcement was emailed to students, faculty and staff on Oct. 3 by Wake Forest Communications and External Relations:

Wake Forest University’s Office of the Chaplain will host “The Prayers of the People: Praying with Our Feet” in response to the mass shooting in Las Vegas, the aftermath of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, and other unsettling events happening around the world.

The event will take place Wednesday, Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Hearn Plaza.

The rending of fabric is an act of mourning in the Jewish tradition. Participants will be invited to select a piece of torn fabric, walk Hearn Plaza in contemplation, prayer or reflection, and tie their fabric to a peace pole as a commitment to pursue peace for all people.

The Carillon in Wait Chapel will mark the hour at noon inviting all to pause and consider the world around them. Words of comfort and encouragement will follow as will prayers from different traditions.

In addition, Wait Chapel will be open all day for quiet reflection.
