Residence halls to open on Jan. 6, a day earlier than planned

This message was distributed by Residence Life and Housing on Jan. 5 to students who live in University residence halls:

Dear Resident,

Due to the inclement weather forecast for the Winston-Salem community and some other Eastern US areas, Residence Life and Housing will open residence halls for the spring semester one day early, Friday, January 6 at 9:00 a.m. We encourage you to consider safety of travel as you make plans to return to campus, knowing that weather conditions may improve prior to classes beginning on Tuesday, January 10.

Please be aware that because the University does not officially reopen until Saturday, January 7, some services may be limited.

Dining services will be operating the Fresh Food Company (The Pit) on reduced hours on Fridayfor lunch and dinner using food dollars, cash or credit cards only. Meal plans (swipes) will begin on Saturday, January 7.  Please see the Campus Dish website for specific hours of operation of The Pit and other retail outlets.

Additionally, Facilities and Campus Services crews may continue to be in the residence halls completing routine work that occurs during the winter break period. If you have a facilities need upon arrival, please contact Facilities and Campus Services at campus extension 4255.

For students who need urgent or emergency medical care, personnel from Wake Forest Emergency Medical Services (Wake EMS) will be available beginning at 9:00 a.m. January 6. Call 911 if medical assistance is needed. The Student Health Service will open on Monday, January 9 at 8:30 a.m.
