Information Systems announces new guest WiFi service

Information Systems sent this email to students, faculty and staff on Aug. 17:

Information Systems is pleased to announce the launch of a new guest WiFi service. The new service called WFUguest is comparable to what is commonly available at hotels, airports, coffee shops, colleges and universities. It is designed to make access to the Internet for campus visitors easily accessible through a simple self-service process. Campus visitors will now no longer need to obtain special credentials from the Service Desk (Bridge). The WFUguest network isolates guest wireless traffic from our secure campus wireless network. Students, faculty and staff will continue to use the secure campus wireless, WFUwireless.

What do I need to do/know?

On Monday, Aug. 22, between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., Information Systems will:

  • add WFUguest
  • rename WFUvisitor to WFUmydevices
  • Campus guests may select WFUguest from the list of available networks, open a browser, and accept an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) to gain network access
  • Any existing visitor accounts sponsored prior to this change and all devices registered through the mydevices portal will continue to work but the users will need to point those devices to the new WFUmydevices network name that is replacing WFUvisitor
