Chick-fil-A dialogue continues

The following message is sent on behalf of the Chick-fil-A Campus Dialogue Committee:

To our campus community,

We are so grateful to all of you who took the time out of your busy schedules on Monday to attend our first discussion about Chick-fil-A and share your very thoughtful feedback and comments. Most important, we were so impressed by the civility and respect with which these difficult issues were discussed, and we know you will bring this same willingness to learn from, listen to, and respect one another as you continue these conversations across campus.

As we emphasized Monday, the purpose of Monday’s gathering was to begin a discussion on campus, and we want to help facilitate a range of opportunities to continue the conversation. Please remember that no decisions have been made by the administration, and there is no pre-determined outcome. We want to continue to hear from and learn from all of you. To that end, we are taking the following steps:

  1. We have set up a “virtual” suggestion box so you can share your comments and ideas. The email address for that is chicken@wfu.edu.  We are eager to hear from you.
  2. We have set up a website that can be found at http://provost.wfu.edu/news-and-events/chick-fil-a. On this website, you can find the slides from Monday’s discussion, and we will work to add other materials such as links to articles and other useful sources. We are also happy to post contributions from members of the community who would like to submit a statement for inclusion, so long as it is both signed and in keeping with our tradition of civil and respectful discourse. If you would like to submit such a statement, please send it to the email address above.
  3. We will host another campus-wide discussion soon after our return to campus in January. We are working on a date for this now and will share that as soon as it is finalized. We are also still working out of the details of the format, but we will ensure that you have both the opportunity to hear a range of perspectives and the opportunity to have your voice heard. Therefore, we plan to include time for some small group discussion to ensure we can all hear each other’s perspectives and ideas.

Again, thank you for your engaged and thoughtful participation. We look forward to continuing the conversation.
